Personal Logs of Lt Commander Geordi La Forge (aka CedarCoves Geordi RODEO Next Generation)

Stardate March 14, 2018.

Yesterday I learned a lot at home about gardening! I was not afraid of the lawnmower or the weed wacker. Mama said that is not necessarily a good thing, but she was still impressed. She says I am shaping up to be a pretty brave puppy. I got to meet "Annie" from Annie's Garden Grooming. She held me and I liked Frank and Brett too. I've been really busy working on my job around here, which is to make sure that my cousin Alta does not get bored. I have to work really hard at this job- playing with her all the time. Sometimes she just can't take anymore, so mama takes me to her office, where I use my free time to sleep. Today, before papa went to work I had a not so fun experience. Mama and papa held me and cut my nails. At first I tried to resist and papa gave me duck flavored treats. But then, since I decided I wouldn't let them do the last foot, papa told me I have to learn the lesson of the Borg, "Resistance is Futile". He just held me firm and no treats. So, I gave in, held still and mama clipped the last foot. Then I got a jackpot! Been working on my clicker training too. I like jackpots.

Mamas and Papas are different, I'm finding. When mama finds my swizzle in the kitchen she chuckles, grabs a towel and some green spray. Then, she tells the other dogs to keep a better eye on me and laughs some more. Papa seems a bit more upset. I guess he forgets that puppies outgrow swizzles. Luckily mama makes sure she cleans up after me. Mostly I sleep on her feet, so I don't have many accidents. But sometimes my aunts babysit me in the kitchen and well, you know what they say.....swizzle happens.

In other news, my mama took me on more car rides today. I rode in the "Big Dog Crate". I finally met the elusive Shirley the postmaster and I bravely walked in and out of the post office on my own power. Then, I met "Koba" and her mama Nadi! They had great toys to chew. Overall, I would have rather stayed at home, but my mama seems insistent on taking me places. The other dogs got their nails cut and I watched. I didn't like it so mama said, "we will wait and see what you think when Papa comes home".

I went to the dog show (again) and practiced doing my potties away from home (again). No big deal. I had a great time meeting Maria Jensen from Tree N Sea. She liked my bones, whatever that means. My humans here decided to make pottying outside more challenging, so they made it really wet outside. I like it because it reminds me of the cold weather where I grew up in Colorado. But, the big news for the day is --- since I have been waking up so early anyway, they decided to "change the time". So, starting tomorrow, when I want to get up at 5 am, that is going to be ok, and they are going to call it 6 am. Finally my new humans are getting the hang of things. In other news, I was provided a fan to help me sleep at night. Apparently they think waking up every 2 hours during the night is a bit much and think I am hot. I hope they are right and my new fan will help. Cousin Alta told me she needed the fan to sleep when she was my age too. I'm lucky I have such well trained humans. PS they ate popcorn AGAIN today and all the dogs only got one piece each. Hardly reasonable.

Today was a big day! I went to the dog show for the first time ever. Met my friends Jean and Josh Hargis, Stephen Cabral and Ron Mattson. Even better, I met a giant Bloodhound nose-to-nose. He was really cool and liked me a lot. I saw a Husky, Mastiff, Doberman, Dalmation, Corgi, Elkhound, Sheltie, Keeshond and more. Lots of people gave me cuddles, especially Rocco's mama Jo. I even walked around with a leash attached to me, so that was pretty cool. And I did my potties at the dog show grounds TWICE! I am really brave to start practicing peeing away from home. I learned a lot today so I am sure tomorrow will be a breeze- I heard we are heading back to the dog show again.

Another milestone today was my first swizzle- when you walk and pee. That's kind of like hand-eye-coordination for humans, but it means I can think about more than one thing at a time, and pee while doing all of it! I was pretty proud of my sidewalk art.

I have spent four sunsets now in the RODEO system. While I was unsure at first whether it was a good idea to engage with the other dogs living here, I have come to learn that they are great fun! I enjoy playing with my great-aunt Echo, my cousin Alta, and my aunt Nexpa. My cousin Pixley is a bit of a pain - she is always barking and getting up in my business. I keep my eye on her when she is around. The best thing I have learned so far is "popcorn". The papa here says popcorn is an important tradition to be started early. I thought popcorn was great! I also really like meal time.

So far, I have been on several car rides and visited our vet, Dr Autumn Davidson, the "Merc" and I have been to the post office twice looking for someone named Shirley, but I just keep meeting these guys Joseph and Tong. The mama here says Shirley is the postmaster and really likes puppies. The other guests at the post office all enjoy my visits. I have met the neighbors, the gardening team, this big guy called Holland, and lots of other people out and about.

My mama says you can tell I am a real Swissy as I insist on sleeping under the desk or under the chair when she works, so that she can't move at all and also I follow her every time she leaves the room, no matter how sleepy I get.

The biggest thing I seem to be failing to get through to these people is what time to eat breakfast! When 6 am comes I squeek and squak, but the mama here says its not 6 am "Pacific time" yet. I am working on this. So far, I will keep trying to help her understand what time I like to wake up in the morning. My previous mamas were very well trained.
